How marks and grades work at Iqra National University (INU)

INU bases every course grade on 100 total marks. For both Non-Engineering and Engineering programs the split is identical: Quizzes/Project/Assignment/Class/Presentation/Practical/Case Studies -- 20 marks, Mid-Term Examination -- 30 marks, Final Examination (Comprehension) -- 50 marks.

Attempting the final examination is mandatory -- a student absent from it is given a grade F for the course, regardless of marks earned elsewhere. Attendance also gates the final exam directly: a student must attend at least 75% of contact hours to sit the final exam; falling short results in a grade I (Incomplete) instead of a numeric outcome, even if the rest of the coursework is complete.

How INU calculates GPA

INU's official formula: GPA = Sum of (Credit Hours × Grade Point) ÷ Sum of Credit Hours -- each course's grade point, weighted by its credit hours, averaged across the credit hours attempted.

Degree completion time limits at INU

INU applies what it calls the "1.5 rule": a program's normal duration times 1.5 sets the maximum time to completion (including any Project/Thesis) -- a 4-year program must finish within 6 years, a 3.5-year program within 5 years, a 2.5-year program within 4 years, a 2-year program within 3 years, and a 1.5-year program within 2.5 years. A student who has completed at least 50% of the degree may continue to the permissible limit, but must maintain continuity -- taking classes regularly, without a break.

The final CGPA is withheld until all degree requirements are completed. Any further waiver for a time-bar case requires the Vice Chancellor's approval, on the Dean of Faculty's recommendation, decided case by case.

Convocation medal criteria at INU

INU awards a medal at Convocation to the student with the highest CGPA within the same batch, subject to all of the following: a regular student of the same batch; no Withdrawal/Freeze case; no Repetition/Retake case; no Failure case; no 'I' (Incomplete) case; no Summer Semester case; no Course Drop case; no Disciplinary case; no credit-transfer case. The qualifying student's CGPA must also be 3.8 or higher.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at INU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at INU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this IQRA National University (INU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
