Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) GPA Calculator

Lahore College for Women University uses an absolute grading system: the letter grade in each course is fixed by the marks obtained, not by the class distribution. Each letter grade carries a numeric grade point on a 0.0–4.0 scale, and those grade points drive the GPA (see the Grade Scale Reference on this page for the exact marks bands and points).

The minimum passing grade is D (50% = 1.0 grade point); anything below 50% is an F (0.0) and earns no credit. To pass a course a student must score at least 50% in the Internal Assessment and Final Examination combined, and no grace marks are awarded.

Performance in each semester is reported as a Grade Point Average (GPA), and overall performance as a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

• For each course, Grade Point (GP) = numeric value of the grade × credit hours, so courses with more credit hours weigh more heavily.
• GPA = sum of grade points earned in the semester ÷ sum of credit hours in the semester.
• CGPA is the same calculation cumulated across all semesters completed in the program.

Marks in each course are split as Mid Semester Test 30%, Sessional Work 20%, and Final Examination 50%.

Academic standing is judged on CGPA at the end of each semester:

• CGPA below 1.50 — the student must get Re-admission in the program (allowed only once).
• CGPA between 1.50 and 2.00 — the student is placed on First Probation and conditionally promoted. Failing to reach 2.00 in that semester leads to Last Probation; failing again means Re-admission.

An F grade requires repeating the course when it is next offered; a student gets only two chances to clear an F before Re-admission. An I (Incomplete) grade is given when a student is declared Not Eligible for the Final Examination — usually for falling below the 80% attendance requirement — and the course must be repeated.

To be awarded a Bachelor degree, an LCWU student must complete 130–140 credit hours (including a 6/3 credit-hour Dissertation, Project, Internship, or Special Paper) and pass all prescribed courses.

The graduation floor is a CGPA of at least 2.30 at the end of the program. A student short of 2.30 at the end of Semester VIII may be allowed to repeat one or more courses in which her grade is below B−, within the maximum program duration.

LCWU recognizes top graduates by class position, subject to a CGPA floor and clearing every semester's Final Examination at the first chance offered:

• Gold / Silver Medal and Certificate of Merit — awarded to the first and second position holders in each major (where at least 10 graduates), provided they scored at least 3.70 CGPA.
• Academic Certificate of Distinction — for third and fourth positions in a major, again requiring at least 3.70 CGPA.
• Academic Rolls of Honour — awarded to every graduate who completed the degree with at least 3.50 CGPA.

Re-admission, marks improvement, probation, or extension cases are not considered for any of these awards.

Credit-hour transfer is decided by the Equivalence Committee in consultation with the relevant department. Credit hours can only be transferred from institutions chartered by the Higher Education Commission or an Accreditation Council.

The grades of transferred courses are not recalculated — the transferred credit hours count toward the total credit requirement for graduation but do not re-enter the GPA computation.
