Grading Scales
Strayer publishes separate grading scales for different populations: a general scale for undergraduate coursework, a distinct scale for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program, a separate Graduate scale (where any grade below C carries zero quality points), and a letter-symbol scale for JWMI (Jack Welch Management Institute) MBA coursework. Pass (P) and No Pass (NP) grades carry no quality points and are not factored into the GPA.

How the GPA Is Calculated
The cumulative GPA is computed on a four-point basis and includes all courses taken at Strayer with an assigned grade-point value; courses without grade points, including transfer credit, are excluded.
An undergraduate student may repeat a college-level course in which they received a D or F, generally once (a dean or academic designee may grant an exception). Students in associate and bachelor's degree programs may have up to five repeat-excluded grades on their record; certificate programs up to two; diploma programs up to three. Once that cap is reached, all further D/F grades in repeated courses count toward the cumulative GPA.

Academic Warning, Suspension, and Probation
Undergraduate students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 after attempting 13.5 quarter credit hours are placed on academic warning the following quarter; if the GPA remains below 2.0 at the end of that quarter, the student is academically suspended. A suspended student may return under an academic recovery plan, entering probation for two quarters — returning to satisfactory standing if the cumulative GPA reaches 2.0, or back to suspension if it does not.
Graduate students follow the same warning-suspension-probation sequence, triggered by a cumulative GPA below 2.5 after attempting 9.0 quarter credits.

Minimum GPA for Graduation
Undergraduate degrees and diplomas are conferred only on students with a cumulative GPA of C (2.0) or higher. Graduate students must attain a program-specific cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, plus a grade of B (3.0) or higher in capstone and concentration coursework, and C (2.0) or higher in any assigned undergraduate prerequisite courses.

Honors and Latin Distinctions
Undergraduate students graduate "cum laude" with a cumulative GPA of 3.5-3.69, "magna cum laude" at 3.7-3.89, and "summa cum laude" at 3.9 or better (associate and bachelor's degrees only; not diplomas or undergraduate certificates).
Each quarter, undergraduate students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5-3.74 are placed on the Honor Roll, 3.75-3.99 on the Dean's List, and 4.0 on the President's List. Graduate students with a cumulative GPA of 3.75-3.99 are placed on the Dean's List and 4.0 on the President's List.

Transfer Credit and the GPA
Transfer credit does not count toward Strayer's cumulative GPA — only Strayer coursework carrying an assigned grade-point value is included. Transfer credit, CLEP, DSST, Challenge Exam, and Skills Advantage Program credits also do not satisfy Strayer's residency requirements.
