GPA Scale

UBT records grades on a 5.00-point scale under its Study and Examination Regulations for the University Level. Each course's final percentage mark converts to a letter grade and grade points, from A+ down to E, with a per-course minimum passing mark of 60%.

How GPA Is Calculated

Semester GPA is total grade points earned divided by total credit hours attempted that semester; cumulative GPA divides total points by total credit hours attempted since enrollment. An Incomplete (IC) grade is excluded from both averages until replaced with a final grade; if not resolved within one further semester it automatically converts to a failing grade and is then counted.

Academic Warning and Dismissal

A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 (out of 5.00) receives an academic warning. A student is dismissed from the university after at most three consecutive such warnings, though the University Council may grant a fourth chance to raise the cumulative GPA. A student barred from a course's final exam for falling below the minimum attendance rate (no less than 75% of classes) is recorded as failing that course.

Graduating and Degree Classification

A student graduates after completing the study plan's requirements with a cumulative GPA no lower than "Pass" (2.00 out of 5.00). At graduation, the overall degree classification is based on cumulative GPA: Excellent (4.50–5.00), Very Good (3.75–

Graduation Honors

UBT grants First Class Honors to graduates with a cumulative GPA from 4.75 to 5.00 (out of 5.00), and Second Class Honors from 4.25 up to below 4.75 (out of 5.00). Honors require the student to have never failed a course (at UBT or elsewhere), to have finished graduation requirements within the average of the minimum and maximum allowed duration for the college, and to have completed at least 60% of graduation requirements at UBT itself.

Transfer Credit

Courses a student completed outside UBT and later equated toward their program — whether transferring in from another university, visiting from another institution, or moving between UBT colleges — are recorded on the academic record but excluded from the student's cumulative GPA.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at UBT?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at UBT?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this University of Business and Technology (UBT) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
