How BCC's grade points work
Grade points follow the CUNY Uniform Grade Symbols and Guidelines. Plus ("+") and minus ("-") grades are the base letter's quality points ± 0.3 (for example B+ = 3.3, B- = 2.7), with one stated exception: A+ is capped at 4.0, the same as A, rather than an uncapped 4.3.
P (Pass) and NC (No Credit) carry no quality-point value and are not included in the GPA.

GPA calculation rules
Students may elect Pass/No Credit grading for up to two courses during their time at BCC (with instructor agreement, filed before the withdrawal deadline): a passing grade (A+ through D-) becomes "P" and a failing grade becomes "NC," neither affecting GPA.
An Incomplete ("INC") that is not resolved by the end of the following semester converts to "FIN," which counts the same as an F.
Under the CUNY Board of Trustees F Grade Policy, when a student retakes a course after earning F/FIN (or, before Fall 2021, WU/WF/FAB) and earns C or better, the original failing grade is excluded from the GPA (though it stays on the transcript with a notation). This applies only to failing grades earned after 1 September 1984 and courses repeated after 1 September 1990, both original and repeat course must be taken at BCC, and the total failing credits removed this way is capped at 16 for a student's entire CUNY undergraduate enrollment, with no partial deletions.
Grades of W, WN, WD, and NC are excluded from GPA calculation. When a student changes curriculum, all courses from both the old and new curriculum are used in the GPA.

Academic standing and probation
Each semester, continuing students are placed into one of six standing categories: good academic standing, academic warning, probation (12-13 credit limit), academic dismissal (6-7 credit limit), return from dismissal, or permanent academic dismissal.
A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is good academic standing. Below that, an index-classification chart (keyed to total credits attempted) sets the GPA thresholds below which a student is placed on probation, and lower thresholds below which a student already on probation is dismissed. Credits with grades of W, WN, WD, or NC are excluded when applying this chart.

Graduating with an associate degree
To be granted an associate degree or certificate, a student must complete all requirements of their curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher.

Dean's List, President's List, and honors
Students completing 12 or more college credits in a fall or spring semester qualify for the Dean's List at a 3.3+ GPA, or the President's List at a 3.7+ GPA (part-time students qualify on 6-11 credits at the same GPA thresholds). Each list is limited to six appearances per student, and a student with an F, WU, or FIN grade that semester is not eligible; transfer credits don't count toward list eligibility.
Students graduate "with honors" at a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher.
The Honors Program has three tracks: Honors Courses (3.0+ cumulative GPA on 9+ credits), Honors Contracts (3.2+ GPA on 9+ credits), and Honors Program Scholars (3.4+ GPA on 9+ credits, plus 4 or more honors courses/contracts completed at B+ or higher).

Transfer credit and GPA
Credit for courses taken elsewhere before admission to BCC is granted for any passing grade from another CUNY school, or a grade of C or better from a regionally accredited or NY State Board of Regents-accredited school — in both cases the credit is granted but the grade is not calculated into the BCC GPA. Transfer credits are awarded at their face value (e.g. a 2-credit course transfers as 2 credits even if BCC's equivalent course is worth 3).
