How grades count toward the GPA

Only A, B, C, D, and F carry grade points and count toward the cumulative GPA. Several other grades are printed on the transcript but are explicitly excluded from the GPA calculation: S (Satisfactory, treated as C-or-better for prerequisites), U (Unsatisfactory), I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), W (Withdraw), Y (Administrative Withdraw), and AU (Audit).

When a course is repeated, the cumulative GPA includes only the highest single grade earned in that course, plus all grades from courses that are specifically designated as repeatable. Academic Renewal lets a student who had academic difficulty exclude up to four consecutive semesters of coursework from the GPA calculation (after a two-year wait and at least 12 subsequent credit hours at a grade of C or better); the renewal may be granted only once in a student's academic career.

Academic warning, notice, and suspension

A student who has attempted 12 or more credits and holds a cumulative GPA below 2.0 is placed on Academic Warning. A student on Academic Warning who then earns below a 2.0 semester GPA moves to Academic Notice, which lasts up to two semesters: the first requires a 2.0 semester GPA, the second a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Failing to meet those requirements converts the status to Academic Suspension. A suspended student may petition the Dean of Students for reinstatement after a minimum one-semester wait.

Minimum GPA to graduate

To earn a degree or certificate, a student must complete all required coursework with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or better in all work completed at Yavapai College, earning a grade of C or higher in each course counted toward the degree or certificate.

Academic honors

The Academic Honors List recognizes students who complete 12 or more credits in a semester with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. At graduation, a degree is conferred "with Honors" on the transcript and diploma for students who complete a minimum number of college-level (100+) credit hours at Yavapai College graded A-F with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher: 30 credit hours for an Associate degree, 45 for a Bachelor of Applied Science, and 60 for other Bachelor's degrees.

Transfer credit policy

Yavapai College accepts credits from regionally accredited institutions on a credit-for-credit basis for courses numbered 100-level or above completed with a grade of C or better; credits from nationally accredited institutions are considered case-by-case. Only the credit is transferred, never the grade point average — transferred coursework does not affect a student's Yavapai College cumulative GPA.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at YC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at YC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Yavapai College (YC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
