How grading works at Forman Christian College University

FCCU follows an American-style absolute grading system: each letter grade maps to a fixed numeric percentage band and a grade point on a 4.00 scale. Unlike the HEC uniform scheme used by most Pakistani universities, FCCU sets its top band at 93–100 for an A and its passing floor at 60% for a D — the full letter-to-percentage-to-grade-point mapping is shown in the Grade Scale Reference on this page.

The minimum passing grade is D (60–66%, 1.00 grade points); an F (59% or below) carries 0.00 and earns no credit. An NS (“did not show up in class”) also counts as 0.00.

How FCCU calculates GPA and CGPA

FCCU reports a semester grade point average and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) across all completed courses, weighted by credit hours. Administrative grades are handled as follows:

  • W (officially withdrawn) and AW (administrative withdrawal / dismissal) do not carry grade points.
  • I (incomplete) is temporary; if the outstanding work is not submitted within six weeks of the following semester, the I automatically becomes an F.
  • AU (audit / listener) and T (transferred credit) do not count toward the GPA.

A student who receives a D or F in a course may retake it; the better of the two grades is counted and factored into the CGPA. Retaking a course to improve a grade outside that D/F condition is not allowed for CGPA purposes — the second enrollment is recorded as “Academically Withdrawn” (AW) on the transcript.

Good academic standing, probation, and dismissal at FCCU

The minimum CGPA required for Good Academic Standing rises with a student's class level:

ClassificationCredit hours completedMinimum CGPA
Freshman1–301.50
Sophomore31–601.75
Junior61–902.00
Senior90 or more2.00

A student whose performance falls below these thresholds is placed on Academic Probation, which appears on the transcript and limits them to no more than five courses per semester with mandatory advising. Probation remains in effect until the CGPA meets the required threshold. A student who remains on probation beyond one semester may be dropped; a second drop ends the student's degree at FCCU. No student with a CGPA below 2.0 may compete in officially sanctioned sports.

Minimum CGPA to graduate from FCCU

To earn a bachelor's degree, an FCCU student must complete the prescribed credit hours for their program (a minimum of 124 credit hours for most programs, more for some — e.g. 132 or 205) with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 and a major GPA of at least 2.00. Students are expected to complete eight regular (fall and spring) semesters; summer semesters are for addressing deficiencies, not graduating early.

Latin Honors and the Vice Rector's List at FCCU

FCCU awards diplomas with Latin Honors based on the graduating CGPA:

  • Summa Cum Laude (Highest Honors) — 3.90 CGPA or above
  • Magna Cum Laude (High Honors) — 3.70 to 3.89 CGPA
  • Cum Laude (Honors) — 3.50 to 3.69 CGPA

Each semester the Vice Rector's List recognizes students who complete at least four courses with a grade point average of 3.75 or better; students with incomplete grades at the time of publication are not eligible. Transfer (migrated) students qualify for honors only if they completed more than half of their graduation credits at FCCU.

Transfer and A-Level credit at FCCU

Credit earned elsewhere is recorded as a T (transferred credit) grade and does not factor into the FCCU GPA. FCCU has discontinued awarding course credit for A-Level, Edexcel, and International qualifications; instead, only grades of B or above in the relevant A-Level subject are used to meet a course prerequisite (for example, a B or higher in Pure Mathematics 3 satisfies the prerequisite for MATH 201). Students who had already earned A-Level credit keep it but will not receive new credit under the changed policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at FCCU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at FCCU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Forman Christian College University (FCCU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
What GPA scale does FCCU use?

FCCU uses a 4.00 grade point scale with an American-style band structure: an A (93–100%) is worth 4.00, and the passing floor is a D (60–66%) worth 1.00. This differs from the HEC uniform scheme most Pakistani universities use, where an A starts at 85% and the passing floor is 50%.

What is the minimum passing grade at FCCU?

The minimum passing grade is a D, which requires 60–66% and carries 1.00 grade points. Anything 59% or below is an F (0.00) and earns no credit. A D or F may be retaken, and the better of the two grades is counted toward the CGPA.

What CGPA do I need to graduate from FCCU?

You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00, plus a major GPA of at least 2.00, and completion of your program's required credit hours (a minimum of 124 for most programs). Falling below the class-level standing threshold places you on Academic Probation.

What CGPA earns Latin Honors at FCCU?

FCCU awards Summa Cum Laude at a CGPA of 3.90 or above, Magna Cum Laude at 3.70–3.89, and Cum Laude at 3.50–3.69. The semester Vice Rector's List recognizes a GPA of 3.75 or better across at least four courses.
