How grading works at Kinnaird College
Kinnaird strictly follows a 4-point grading system on a 0.00–4.00 scale. A course grade is assigned by the instructor using either an Absolute Marking System — the student's marks map directly to a letter grade (for example, 85–89 marks earns an A) — or a Relative Marking System, where grades are set by the class distribution so that top-performing students receive the higher grades and the lowest performers receive a D or F. Both methods award grades on the same grade-point scale.

How Kinnaird calculates GPA and CGPA
Kinnaird reports a Semester GPA for each term and a Cumulative GPA (CGPA) across all completed semesters. Each is a credit-hour-weighted average, so courses carrying more credit hours weigh more heavily:
- Semester GPA = (sum of credit hours × grade points earned that semester) ÷ total semester credit hours.
- CGPA = (sum of credit hours × grade points earned across all semesters) ÷ total credit hours taken in all semesters.
A course from which a student has withdrawn (W) appears on the transcript but is not counted in the GPA. When a course is repeated, the old grade remains on the transcript (marked with an asterisk) but is excluded from the CGPA, and only the new grade counts.

Academic probation and dismissal at Kinnaird
A student who fails to maintain the minimum cumulative GPA is placed on probation for the following semester — a CGPA below 2.5 for undergraduate programs, or below 3.0 for graduate programs. If the required CGPA is still not reached at the end of the probation semester, the student is dropped from the program.
A grade of F (0.00) is awarded when a student either fails to attain at least 50% marks in a course, or fails to appear in the final examinations. Undergraduate students who receive a C+ or below, and graduate students who receive a B- or below, must repeat the course if they fall short of the minimum CGPA required for their level.

Degree requirements and minimum CGPA to graduate
Undergraduate (BS / BCS / BBA / B.Ed.): a student must complete a minimum of 125 and a maximum of 144 credit hours with a minimum CGPA of 2.50. The degree can be completed in a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 6 years from first registration; requirements not met within this window mean no degree is awarded.
Graduate (MS / M.Phil): except for MS Computer Science, students must complete 24 credit hours of coursework with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 and successfully defend a 6-credit-hour research thesis. An M.Phil candidate must first clear coursework at CGPA 3.00 and pass an oral proposal-defense examination before starting the thesis. MS Computer Science requires a minimum of 30 credit hours. The MS/M.Phil degree must be completed within 3 years of commencement.

Academic honors, gold medals and merit lists
Kinnaird awards a degree with Honors to a few students in each graduating class, and recognizes high achievers through several distinctions:
- Gold Medals — awarded to the student with the highest CGPA in each faculty, provided she completes her Bachelor's degree without any break from her first-semester registration and does not improve or repeat any course.
- Principal's Honor List — students with a CGPA of 3.90 or above.
- Merit List — students with a CGPA of 3.80 or above.
