Norwalk Community College (NCC) GPA Calculator

CT State Community College calculates GPA by multiplying each grade's quality points by the credit hours of the course, summing across all courses, and dividing by the total credit hours attempted.

The notations P (Pass), W (Withdrawal), I (Incomplete), M, and AU (Audit) are not counted toward the GPA, even though the catalog's printed table lists "0" for each: CT State's own graduation-honors policy confirms a student may earn a 4.000 cumulative GPA while carrying a "W," and the same catalog's Grading section states that audited courses "do not earn a grade."

Grades from courses numbered below 1000 (developmental courses) are excluded from the College GPA, though they count toward financial-aid eligibility.

A course may be repeated up to twice without special approval, and the highest grade earned is the one used in the cumulative GPA. Repeating a course more than twice requires approval from the department chair and Academic Dean.

Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher are in good academic standing. A GPA below 2.0 places a student on progressive levels of academic warning, with tightening credit-load caps at each level; suspension follows continued warning once a student has attempted more than 31 credits toward an associate degree (or 13 or more toward a certificate). Suspended students may appeal and, if reinstated, return at Third Level Academic Warning.

The Academic Fresh Start Program lets a returning student — after an absence of two or more years, with a cumulative GPA below 2.00 — have their GPA recalculated starting from the semester of return; prior grades of C- or better, "P" (Pass), and "CR" (Credit) still count for credit, and the option can be used only once, including at a legacy Connecticut community college.

Each semester, full-time students completing 12 or more credits with a GPA of 3.4 or higher, and part-time students meeting the same GPA threshold over successive 12-credit intervals, are named to the Dean's List. An Incomplete grade makes a student ineligible for that semester's Dean's List, though eligibility can be granted retroactively once the Incomplete is resolved.

An Associate Degree requires a minimum of 60 credits, at least 25% completed at CT State, an overall GPA of 2.0, completion of the 21-credit General Education Core, and the specific program's requirements. A Credit Certificate requires at least 25% of credits completed at CT State, an overall GPA of 2.0, and completion of the program's requirements. Programs with specialized accreditation may carry additional requirements.

Latin Honors are awarded at graduation based on cumulative GPA: Summa Cum Laude (3.9-4.0), Magna Cum Laude (3.7-3.89), and Cum Laude (3.4-3.69).

The Board of Regents Medallion for Academic Excellence recognizes graduates with a cumulative GPA of exactly 4.000 who complete at least 50% of their degree requirements at CT State; a "W" or similar withdrawal notation does not disqualify a graduate from the Medallion.
