How grading works at WSCC

WSCC grades on a 4.0 scale with quality points awarded per semester hour: A – Highest Proficiency (4), B – High Proficiency (3), C – Proficiency (2), D – Low Proficiency (1), and F – Failure (0). WSCC does not use plus/minus grading — there is no A+, A-, B+, or any other modified letter grade.

Other transcript markings (I, N/C, IP, W, AU, X, P, FA) carry no grade-point value of their own. An I (Incomplete) or IP (In Progress, learning-support courses only) not resolved by the next semester's drop deadline is counted as an F.

How your GPA is calculated at WSCC

Your quality point average (GPA) is the total number of quality points divided by the total number of semester hours attempted, less the number of hours repeated.

If you repeat a course in which you earned a C or lower, the repeat grade supersedes the earlier grade in your GPA, and the hours count only once. You may repeat a course twice (three attempts total) under this rule; after three attempts, the third and later grades are the ones used in your GPA. Repeating a course you passed with a B or higher requires approval from the vice president for Academic Affairs.

Academic Fresh Start lets returning students who have been away from all higher education for at least four consecutive years petition to have all prior coursework disregarded in their cumulative GPA. It is a one-time opportunity.

Where does this WSCC grade scale come from?
From WSCC's official grading policy, published at catalog.ws.edu. The grade table on this page is the one the policy sets out, verified Sep 2026.
Does WSCC use plus/minus grading (A+, A-, B+, etc.)?

No. WSCC's Grading System table lists only whole-letter grades — A (4), B (3), C (2), D (1), and F (0) — with no plus or minus modifiers.

Do I, IP, W, P, NC, AU, X, or FA grades affect my GPA at WSCC?

Not directly. W (Withdrew), P (Passed), NC (No Credit), AU (Audit), and X (No grade reported) carry no grade-point value and don't affect your GPA. An I (Incomplete) or IP (In Progress) that isn't resolved by the next semester's drop deadline is counted as an F and does affect your GPA.

How do I convert semester GPA to cumulative GPA at WSCC?
Your cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester GPAs across every semester: (semester GPA₁ × credits₁ + … + semester GPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + … + creditsₙ). Save each semester to the tracker on this page, by course or as a quick semester GPA + credits entry, and it works out your cumulative GPA on every save, edit and delete.
Is this WSCC GPA calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. GPAWise is free, with no signup, and your courses and saved semesters stay in your browser: nothing is sent to our servers. "Clear all tracker data" on the tracker wipes them at any time.
