Special Grade Designations

Beyond the standard letter grades, Jefferson State recognizes several non-graded designations that carry no quality points and are not averaged into the GPA:

  • W — Withdrawal
  • WP — Withdrawal Passing
  • I — Incomplete. Must be completed by the beginning of the 12th week of the following fall or spring semester (or the 7th week of a summer term), or the grade converts to an F.
  • AU — Audit. Must be declared by the end of the registration period and cannot be changed afterward; audited hours are not averaged into the GPA.
  • RW — Required Withdrawal

How GPA Is Calculated

Jefferson State computes GPA by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of semester hours for which grades of A, B, C, D, or F were assigned.

A repeated course is counted as many times as grades were recorded for it, unless the student submits a Request for Course Forgiveness form to Enrollment Services for the first repeat of a course.

Standards of Academic Progress

Required cumulative GPA rises with hours attempted at Jefferson State: 1.5 at 12–21 attempted hours, 1.75 at 22–32 hours, and 2.0 at 33 or more hours. Programs subject to external licensure, certification, or accreditation, or shorter than four semesters, may set higher standards than these institutional minimums.

A student falling below the required GPA is placed on Academic Probation. Continued shortfall leads to a One Semester Academic Suspension and, after a further shortfall following suspension, a One Calendar Year Academic Suspension. A suspended student may request readmission by submitting a College Policies Complaints/Appeals Form.

Minimum GPA for Graduation

A student must earn a cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 (C) on all Jefferson State coursework to be eligible for graduation.

Transfer of D Grades

A grade of D counts as satisfactory progress at Jefferson State, but senior colleges and universities receiving a transfer transcript can refuse to grant credit for a course completed with a D.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at JSCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at JSCC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Jefferson State Community College (JSCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does the general grading scale apply to Nursing, PTA, and Radiologic Technology courses?

No. The college's catalog states its A–F/4.0 grading scale applies to all courses "except NUR, PTA, and RAD courses" (Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant, and Radiologic Technology). The alternate scale used for those programs is not published in the catalog's Grades section and was not located elsewhere within this research's scope.
