How HCCC Calculates GPA
To determine the grade point average (GPA), HCCC multiplies each course's grade-point equivalent by its credit hours, then divides the total grade points earned by the total credits attempted.
Not every grade counts toward GPA. W (Withdraw) and AU (Audit) carry no grade points and are excluded from the GPA calculation, though a W still counts toward credits attempted. In a Pass/Fail course, a P does not affect GPA; a fail is recorded as the standard F grade (0.0). An I (Incomplete) is a temporary placeholder that converts automatically to F if not resolved within three weeks of the semester's end. Credit awarded by examination (CX) carries no grade points.

Transfer Credit and the D Grade
A grade of D (1.0 grade points) is minimally acceptable for general education coursework, but is not acceptable for prerequisite or major-required courses. HCCC advises that courses completed with a D grade are generally not accepted for transfer credit by other institutions.
