How special markings affect your GPA
Several marks that can appear on a Motlow State grade report or transcript are not letter grades and are excluded from the grade point average:
- CE (credit by exam) is not used in computing the GPA.
- I (incomplete) is not included in the GPA for the semester it is assigned. It may be removed or extended during the following semester (excluding summer); if it is not removed or extended, it automatically becomes an F.
- P (Pass, under the Pass/Fail option) is not used in computing the GPA — it increases hours earned without affecting hours attempted or quality points. The corresponding F under Pass/Fail is used in the GPA like any other F.
- S (Satisfactory) is used only for general-interest community service courses awarding continuing education units.
- W (withdrew) is not used in computing the GPA and has no effect on quality hours attempted, hours earned, or quality points earned.
- AU (audit) carries no credit and no grade at all.
