Marks with no grade-point value

In addition to the letter grades used to compute GPA, Nashville State's transcript may show marks that carry no grade points and are not counted in the grade point average: W (withdrawal initiated by the student), I (incomplete, which converts automatically to an F if not resolved by the posted deadline), X (continuation in a remedial/developmental course, capped at 15 semester hours overall), AU (audit, no credit), and NR (no grade reported by the instructor).

Repeating a course

A student may repeat a course for the purpose of raising a GPA only if the previous grade earned was a C or lower; repeating a course graded B or higher requires approval as an exception to this policy. Credit hours for a repeated course count only once toward the cumulative total, and the grade earned on the third and later attempts is used in calculating the GPA.

Good standing, probation, and suspension

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 to remain in good standing. A student who fails to reach a 2.0 cumulative GPA is placed on academic probation for the next term and must earn at least a 2.0 term GPA while on probation; falling below a 2.0 term GPA while on probation results in a one-term suspension. A student returning from suspension is placed on a post-suspension probationary status, and a further shortfall results in a two-term suspension.

Academic Fresh Start allows a returning student who has been away from higher education for at least four years, has not earned a credential elsewhere, and previously earned credit at Nashville State to have F grades (and D grades that do not count toward the degree) excluded from GPA and earned-hours calculations, while remaining on the academic record. It may be granted only once.

Dean's List and President's List

Degree- and certificate-seeking students enrolled at least part-time (six credit hours) are named to the Dean's List for a term QPA/GPA of at least 3.5, and to the President's List for a term QPA/GPA of at least 4.0, based on college-level coursework.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at NSCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at NSCC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Nashville State Community College (NSCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
