Vincennes University (VU) GPA Calculator

Vincennes University offers three ways to recalculate a cumulative GPA. Repeated Course Exclusion may be used multiple times: only the higher of the grades earned in a repeated course counts toward the GPA (a "W" does not replace a prior grade; "W" and "WN" do not count as an attempt, but "WF" does). Major Course Grade Exclusion and VU Fresh Start can each be used only once: both let a student exclude prior D, F, and WF grades from the GPA calculation (Major Course Grade Exclusion after a change of major; VU Fresh Start for readmitted students who have been away from VU for at least 36 consecutive months). Excluded courses still remain on the official transcript.

Good Standing requires a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Students falling below that threshold move through two escalating classifications based on GPA and credit hours earned: Academic Warning (e.g. 0-30 earned hours with a cumulative GPA of 1.8-1.999) and Academic Probation (e.g. 0-30 earned hours with a cumulative GPA below 1.8; the threshold rises to below 1.9 at 31-45 hours and below 2.0 at 46+ hours). A student on probation who posts a 2.0+ semester GPA while enrolled in seven or more quality hours continues on probation until the cumulative GPA recovers to 2.0; failing to do so, or falling below seven quality hours, leads to Academic Disqualification. Disqualified students may appeal for readmission through the Committee for Readmission.

To graduate, all students — baccalaureate or associate level — must achieve a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (a C average), exclusive of hours marked W (Withdrawal) and developmental courses.

Students earning a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher, while completing at least twelve credit hours in 100-level or higher courses with no grade of D, F, I, RD, or Z, are placed on the Dean's List. Degrees are awarded with honors based on cumulative GPA: Cum Laude (3.50-3.69), Magna Cum Laude (3.70-3.89), and Summa Cum Laude (3.90-4.00). Non-military students need at least 30 Vincennes University semester hours to qualify for graduation honors; students under military agreements need at least 15.

Courses transferred as "courses only" that receive below a C- are not accepted. A completed associate degree transferring into a baccalaureate program is accepted at a D grade unless the receiving program specifically requires a C. In all cases, only credit hours transfer — grades never transfer and are never counted in a student's Vincennes University GPA. Up to 65 transfer credit hours may apply toward a baccalaureate degree.
