How Ramapo Calculates Your GPA
Ramapo College calculates a term grade point average and a cumulative grade point average for each student at the end of every term, by dividing total quality points by total quality hours earned. Only courses taken at Ramapo count toward these calculations. Credit hours are based on a semester calendar.

Grades That Affect Your GPA
An FN (Fail, Non-Attendance) grade is calculated into the GPA the same way as an F. Grades beginning with X are excluded from a student's GPA under the College's Fresh Start program, though they still count toward degree requirements. An R (Grade Replacement) grade excludes the credits and GPA impact of an earlier attempt once a retaken course is successfully completed.
Students may take the P/F (Pass/Fail) option for up to 4 credits per semester and no more than 4 credits out of every 12 credits earned; P/F is available only for free-elective courses and does not affect GPA. Grades of AU (Audit), I (Incomplete), T (Temporary), W (Withdrawn), Y, and Z (Temporary) also carry no grade-point value and do not factor into the GPA.

Does an FN grade count against my GPA the same as an F?

What is Ramapo's Fresh Start program?
Fresh Start lets an undergraduate returning after a break of at least 24 consecutive months restart with a cumulative GPA of 0.00, once per bachelor's degree, if approved by the appropriate School Dean. Prior RCNJ grades remain on the transcript but are excluded from GPA calculations; grades of P and D-or-better keep their credit but not their quality points. The student must complete at least 32 additional credits at Ramapo afterward.
