Hill College GPA Calculator

Hill College uses a five-letter grading scale — A, B, C, D, and F — with no plus/minus variants. Grades of I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawn), and WC (Withdraw COVID-19) carry no grade-point value and are never computed in the GPA.

The grade point average is computed by multiplying each grade's point value by the semester hours of the course, summing the results, and dividing by the total semester hours attempted (for example, 12 hours of A plus 3 hours of F yields 48 grade points ÷ 15 hours = a 3.20 GPA). A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 is required for graduation.

When a course is repeated to improve a grade, only the grade from the most recent attempt is used.

Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) are in Good Standing. Falling below 2.0 places a student on Scholastic Probation for the next long semester; failing to reach 2.0 again after a probation semester results in Scholastic Suspension for one long semester. A student who earns 12 or more hours at a 2.0 GPA or higher in a given semester, while still below the cumulative 2.0 threshold, remains on Continued Probation rather than being suspended.

A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on all coursework completed at Hill College is required for every degree and certificate the college awards: Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts in Teaching, Associate of Applied Science, Certificate of Technology, and Certificate of Completion.

The President's List recognizes students who earn a 4.0 GPA while enrolled in at least 12 semester hours (excluding developmental/remedial courses) in a semester; the Dean's List recognizes a GPA of 3.50 or higher under the same enrollment conditions.

Associate-degree graduates with at least 24 semester hours in residence and at least two semesters at Hill College earn Latin honors based on their GPA on all work attempted: cum laude at 3.5, magna cum laude at 3.75, and summa cum laude at 3.9 (all on a 4.0 scale).

Course credit with a passing grade of D or better may transfer in from a regionally accredited institution. Credit awarded by examination or other non-traditional means (AP, CLEP, IB, military training, etc.) is posted as semester-hour credit only — no grade points are earned, and it is never computed in the GPA.
