How GPA Is Calculated
GPA is the ratio of total grade points earned to total credit hours attempted, excluding courses taken on a pass/fail basis and courses graded W, I, or IP.
If a course is repeated, the highest grade earned counts toward the cumulative GPA; credit counts only once toward a credential.
A student readmitted after two or more years away, who completes at least 12 college-level credit hours with a 2.0 GPA or better after readmission, may elect academic bankruptcy: none of the pre-interruption coursework is included in the GPA computation (though earned credit for passing grades is retained). This option may be used only once.

Academic Probation and Suspension
A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 at the end of a term is placed on academic probation, and is removed from probation by bringing the cumulative GPA back to at least 2.0.
A student on probation for two consecutive terms who fails to earn at least a 2.0 cumulative or term GPA in the third term is academically suspended. A suspended student may be reinstated after sitting out at least one 16-week semester (two semesters after a second suspension), subject to college approval.

Graduation GPA Requirements
A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 is required for all KCTCS associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Degree candidates must satisfactorily complete 60 credits; diploma candidates at least 36 hours; certificate candidates must complete their approved curriculum at a 2.0 GPA or better in the required courses.
At least 25% of a credential's approved curriculum credits must be completed at the KCTCS college granting the credential.

Dean's List and Graduation Honors
The Dean's List recognizes students who earn a 3.5 or higher GPA in a semester, in courses numbered 100 or above.
Graduates with at least 45 credit hours (degree) or 30 credit hours (diploma) completed in the KCTCS colleges are graduated "With Distinction" at a 3.40-3.59 cumulative GPA, or "With High Distinction" at 3.60 or higher, on all work attempted.
