Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) GPA Calculator

Cumulative GPA is the ratio of total grade points earned to total credit hours attempted, excluding courses taken pass/fail and courses graded W, I, or IP. A course may be repeated to improve a grade; the highest grade earned counts toward the cumulative GPA, and credit counts only once toward a credential. Students may take up to two elective courses pass/fail (with restrictions) once they have completed at least 30 credit hours and are not on academic probation; these do not count toward GPA. Students readmitted after two or more years away, who complete at least 12 credit hours post-readmission at a 2.0 GPA or better, may elect academic bankruptcy once, excluding pre-interruption coursework from their GPA calculation.

A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 at the end of a term is placed on academic probation, and is removed from probation by earning at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. A student on probation for two consecutive terms who fails to reach a 2.0 cumulative or term GPA in the third term is academically suspended and may not enroll in credential-bearing courses. A suspended student may seek reinstatement after sitting out at least one 16-week semester (two semesters after a second suspension), and is placed back on probation upon reinstatement.

Associate degrees (Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Fine Arts, Associate in Applied Science) require satisfactory completion of 60 credits, including general education and program requirements, with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Diplomas require a minimum of 36 hours under the same GPA standard, and certificates require a GPA of at least 2.0 in the courses required for the certificate. For all credentials, students must complete at least 25% of the approved curriculum credits at the KCTCS college granting the credential.

The Dean's List recognizes students who earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher in courses numbered 100 or above. At graduation, students who have completed at least 45 credit hours toward a degree (or 30 credit hours toward a diploma) are graduated "With High Distinction" with a GPA of 3.60 or higher, or "With Distinction" with a GPA of 3.40-3.59.
