Grading notations beyond the letter scale
ACTC uses letter grades A, B, C, D, and E for standard coursework, each carrying grade points. Several other notations appear on transcripts but carry no grade-point value and are excluded from the GPA:
- F — an unsatisfactory grade on a Pass-Fail basis (used for developmental/remedial courses); not the standard failing grade.
- AU — audit, no credit earned.
- I — incomplete; must be finished within one year or it automatically converts to E.
- IP — in progress, for courses extending beyond the standard term.
- W — official withdrawal.
- P — satisfactory grade on a Pass-Fail basis.
- MP — making progress, developmental courses only.

How the GPA is calculated
The cumulative GPA is the ratio of total grade points earned to total credit hours attempted, excluding courses taken on a pass/fail basis and courses graded W or I. Grade points are earned at A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, E = 0 per credit hour.
A course may be repeated to improve a grade; only the highest grade earned counts toward the cumulative GPA, and credit counts once toward a KCTCS credential.

Academic probation, suspension, and reinstatement
A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 at the end of a term is placed on academic probation, and is removed from probation by earning at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
A student on probation for two consecutive terms who fails to reach a 2.0 cumulative or term GPA in the third term is academically suspended. After suspension, a student may be reinstated following at least one 16-week semester away from the college; a student reinstated after suspension is placed back on probation and is subject to suspension again if their GPA in the first term back is below 2.0.
A student readmitted after two or more years away, who completes at least 12 non-developmental credit hours with a 2.0 GPA or better after readmission, may elect academic bankruptcy: none of the pre-interruption coursework is counted in the GPA going forward (though credit already earned for grades of A, B, C, D, or P is kept). This option may be used only once.

Dean's List
The Dean's List recognizes students who earn an overall semester GPA of 3.5 or higher in courses numbered 100 or above.
