Shasta College GPA Calculator

In addition to standard letter grades, many Shasta College courses offer a Pass/No Pass (P/NP) grading option; P and NP grades are not calculated into the grade point average. Some courses use Competency-Based Education (CBE) assessment instead, awarding M+ (Mastery with Distinction), M (Mastery), or PW (Progress Withdrawal) on the competency transcript. When crosswalked to a traditional transcript, M+ becomes a letter grade of A (4.0) and M becomes a B (3.0), but only if all competencies in the module were completed at that level; PW crosswalks to W.

Course repetition is generally restricted to two repetitions (three total enrollments). Students who receive a D, F, FW, W, NC, or NP grade may repeat the course twice without petition, and the last evaluative grade earned is the one used to compute GPA. Repeating a course in which A, B, C, or P was earned requires petitioning the Scholastic Standards Committee, and that repeat grade is not calculated into the GPA. Academic Renewal (Title 5, Section 55046) allows D and F grades to be removed from the GPA calculation when a student's prior academic performance is not reflective of their recent performance.

A student is placed on academic notice with a cumulative GPA below 2.0, or when W, I, and NP entries reach 50% or more of attempted units. A student is subject to academic pause after three consecutive semesters with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 (or the equivalent W/I/NP completion threshold). Notice is removed once cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher; a student who reaches a 2.0 semester GPA but not yet a 2.0 cumulative GPA has their notice extended rather than paused.

Associate degree and certificate programs require an overall grade point average of not less than 2.0 based on all college work attempted (transfer degrees require the 2.0 minimum in transferable coursework specifically). Major-field coursework must be completed with a grade of C or better, or P if taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.

Shasta College's Beta Mu Mu chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, established in 2004, invites students who have completed 12 or more transferable units at Shasta College with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Credits completed at another accredited institution may be applied toward prerequisite, general education, major, or elective requirements. Students must submit official transcripts and a Transcript Evaluation request to Admissions and Records; upper-division coursework may be accepted if completed at an accredited institution and deemed comparable to a Shasta College course by discipline faculty or through an articulation agreement.
