Middlesex Community College (MCC) GPA Calculator

Beyond the lettered grades, Middlesex Community College records additional notations on the transcript that carry no grade-point value and are not calculated into the GPA:

• P — assigned to indicate the successful completion of a practicum in a clinical course, or other courses that use a pass/fail system.
• W — indicates withdrawal from a course.
• I — Incomplete.
• IP — course in progress.
• COM — used in noncredit courses to indicate completion of the course.
• AU — audit (no credit).

Middlesex Community College (MCC) calculates two overall GPAs. The cumulative GPA (less developmental credit) considers only college-level coursework and is used for graduation requirements, graduation honors, Phi Theta Kappa eligibility, and Dean's/Merit List eligibility. The cumulative GPA considers all coursework, including developmental credit, and is used for academic standing and financial-aid satisfactory academic progress.

Both are calculated by multiplying each grade's quality-point value by the course's semester hours, then dividing total quality points by total semester hours attempted. Only coursework attempted at Middlesex counts; noncredit courses are never calculated into either GPA.

A withdrawal ("W") counts as a course attempt but is not factored into the GPA. An Incomplete ("I") earns no quality points until resolved. If a course is repeated, only the highest grade earned counts toward the GPA, though all attempts remain on the transcript; students are permitted a maximum of three attempts at any one course.

Academic standing is determined by cumulative GPA relative to credit hours completed at Middlesex Community College:

Students on Academic Notice have two consecutively enrolled semesters to raise their cumulative GPA above the Notice threshold, or they are suspended for one semester. Students returning from suspension are placed on Academic Notice and must raise their GPA to Good Standing within two semesters, or face a further one-semester suspension.

Associate degree: completion of at least 60 semester hours meeting the major program of study and core curriculum requirements; a cumulative GPA (less developmental credit) of at least 2.00; a minimum of 15 semester hours completed at Middlesex, including at least 9 semester hours in the field of specialization; and payment of all financial obligations.

Certificate: completion of the certificate program's required coursework; a minimum of 9 semester hours completed at Middlesex; a cumulative GPA (less developmental credit) of at least 2.00; and payment of all financial obligations.

Graduation Honors: associate-degree candidates with a cumulative GPA (less developmental credit) of 3.20-3.49 graduate with honors, 3.50-3.69 with high honors, and 3.70-4.00 with highest honors; eligibility requires a minimum of 35 credit hours earned at Middlesex.

Dean's List: students carrying 12 or more credit hours who earn a 3.20 GPA or higher in a semester, without a D, F, I, or IP grade.

Merit List: students carrying at least 6 but fewer than 12 credit hours who meet the same 3.20 GPA and grade requirements as the Dean's List.

Phi Theta Kappa: membership in the Alpha Delta Omicron chapter requires a cumulative GPA (less developmental credit) of 3.50 or higher and at least 12 completed credits of college-level coursework by the end of the prior semester.

Transfer credit is recorded on the transcript with a distinct notation rather than a letter grade: TR denotes transfer credit for a course grade of C or higher, and TS denotes transfer credit for a course grade of C-.
