For undergraduate students, "A" indicates outstanding achievement; "B," good; "C," average; "D," below average; and "F," failure.

For graduate students, "A" indicates superior work; "B," average or satisfactory; and "C" is the lowest passing grade.

Undergraduate students at Seaver College may take certain courses on a Credit/No Credit basis instead of a letter grade. "CR" (equivalent to A, B, or C work) and "NC" (equivalent to C-, D, or F work) are not computed into the semester grade point average, though each "NC" is treated as evidence of poor academic work if probation or dismissal is being considered (see Credit/No Credit).

A grade of "I" (Incomplete) that is not resolved by its deadline defaults to an "F"; work taken Credit/No Credit that is not completed on time defaults to "NC" (see Incomplete/In Progress).

When a required course is repeated after an original grade of "C-" or lower, both the original and the repeat grade are calculated into the GPA (units count once toward graduation). When a course originally graded "C" or better is repeated, the later grade is not calculated into the GPA or unit total (see Repeating Courses).

A cumulative GPA of at least 2.000 (C) is required at Seaver College. When a student's cumulative GPA falls below 2.000, the student is placed on academic probation as a warning. A student on academic probation must earn at least a 2.000 GPA in the next term of enrollment and clear probation within one calendar year, or face academic dismissal.

A student who is academically dismissed must complete a full load of classes elsewhere for at least one term, and meet all other requirements set by the Credits Committee, before requesting readmission.

A minimum GPA of 2.000 (C), both for work taken at Seaver College and for work done in the major(s), is required for the bachelor's degree.

A Dean's List of Seaver undergraduate students achieving high scholarship is published each semester (excluding the summer term). To be eligible, a student must complete at least twelve letter-graded units during the semester, receive no grade below "C" for the semester, receive no grades of "I" or "NC", be in the top 10 percent of the class, and have a term grade point average of at least 3.5.
