Quality points earned in a course equal the number of semester hours for that course multiplied by the numerical value of the grade received. Quality hours (GPA hours) are the semester hours in which grades are awarded. Cumulative GPA is total quality points divided by total GPA hours.

Grades of W, WI, INC, PRG, PRU, or NC are not counted in GPA hours and receive no quality points.

GPA is calculated by truncating, not rounding: a computed GPA of 3.999999999 is reported as 3.999, not rounded up to 4.000.

Undergraduate: a student is in good academic standing when enrolled and not on academic or disciplinary probation. A cumulative GPA and last-semester GPA of 2.0 are expected of all students. A student on probation who fails to meet either the 2.0 last-semester or 2.0 cumulative requirement is placed on suspension; a student who meets the last-semester minimum but not the cumulative minimum remains on probation.

Graduate: good standing requires a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and no PRU (Unsatisfactory Progress) grades. Falling short leads to a first-semester probation, then discretionary dismissal, then mandatory dismissal if a remedial plan is not met.

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA above 2.0 to graduate. For the Bachelor of Science degree specifically, the Catalog requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000 for all academic work completed in residence and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000 for courses in the candidate's major.

To be placed on the academic honor roll, a student must complete at least 14 semester hours with a semester GPA between 3.0 and 3.499, no grade below a "C," and no incomplete grade. Students meeting these criteria with a semester GPA of 3.5 or above are placed on the Dean's List instead.
