How the GPA is Calculated
The cumulative GPA is the ratio of total grade points earned to total credit hours attempted, excluding courses taken on a pass/fail basis and courses graded W, I, or IP. Total grade points equal credit hours multiplied by the grade points assigned to the grade earned: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, E = 0.
Repeating a course: the highest grade earned in a completed course is the only grade included in the cumulative GPA, though credit counts only once toward a credential.
Academic Bankruptcy: a student readmitted after two or more years away who completes at least 12 college-level credit hours with a 2.0 GPA or better after readmission may elect to exclude all prior coursework from the GPA calculation, though credit for prior A, B, C, D, or P grades is retained. This option may be used only once.

Academic Probation and Suspension
A student earning a cumulative GPA below 2.0 at the end of a term is placed on academic probation, and is removed from probation by earning at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
A student on academic probation for two consecutive terms who fails to earn at least a 2.0 cumulative or term GPA in the third term is academically suspended and may not enroll in courses counting toward a KCTCS credential.
A suspended student may be reinstated, on academic probation, after remaining out of the college for at least one 16-week semester (two 16-week semesters after a second suspension) and providing evidence of ability to perform at the required level.
