Beyond the letter grades A–F, EKU's registrar also records: I (Incomplete) and IM (Incomplete due to military activation), W (official withdrawal) and WM (withdrawal due to military activation), AU (audit, no credit), CR/NC (credit/no credit), IP (in progress), and NR (not reported) -- none of these carry a GPA-counted value.

A student may audit a course (take it without credit) with the permission of the instructor and dean, after registering for the course as usual and completing an audit form. The Credit/No Credit option records recognition of AP, IB, CLEP, or other proficiency-exam scores and prior learning assessment; international coursework transferred to EKU is also recorded as CR/NC rather than a letter grade.

GPA is the sum of total quality points earned divided by total attempted course credits, where quality points equal each grade's numerical value multiplied by the course's credit hours. Students have both an institutional (overall) GPA and a term GPA. The official GPA is truncated -- never rounded -- to two decimal places.

Under EKU's Repeating Courses policy, when a course is repeated the highest grade is included in the term and institutional GPA and the lower grade is excluded; this applies regardless of which attempt earned the higher grade. If a student repeats a failed course and fails again, the most recent failing grade is the one used. A grade of S, CR, NC, or P earned on a repeat cannot replace a C, D, FN, F, or FX earned under normal grading -- those grades stay in the GPA unless replaced by another normal letter grade. Hours passed under the Pass-Fail or Satisfactory-Unsatisfactory options do not count toward GPA, but hours failed under either option (an "F" or a "U"/"UN") do.

Successful completion of any EKU degree or certificate program requires a minimum 2.0 overall GPA as well as a minimum 2.0 institutional GPA.

A degree cannot be awarded to a student with any incomplete ("I") EKU courses on their record. A pending graduate with unresolved incomplete grades must either accept an "F" (or "NC" for an unresolved "IP") or defer graduation to the next term; all incompletes must be resolved before the published degree conferral date. Credit hours from zero-level (090/095) developmental coursework do not apply toward graduation, though they count toward enrollment status and financial-aid eligibility.

Grades for all non-zero-level EKU and transfer courses are included in a student's overall GPA calculation. International coursework transferred to EKU, however, is recorded as CR/NC rather than a letter grade, so it carries no GPA-counted value.
