Singapore Polytechnic (SP) GPA Calculator

Singapore Polytechnic records each module's performance as a letter grade with an attached grade point, on a 4-point scale. This grade-point system has applied since academic year 2004/2005 to all new students entering SP from that year onward; students admitted earlier do not have grade points printed on their exam result slips or transcripts.

Additional transcript notations that carry no grade point: ABS (Absent), UP (Pass in a module with no grade point), UF (Fail in a module with no grade point), and EX (Exempted).

Your GPA is calculated as the sum of (module credit units × module grade point), divided by the sum of module credit units. SP computes two figures: Semester GPA (sGPA), using only the modules examined (including failed modules) in that semester, and Cumulative GPA (cGPA), using all modules examined (including failed modules) up to and including the current semester.

From academic year 2024/2025, up to two elective modules taken over a student's course of study can be automatically excluded from their final cGPA computation, applied in the student's final phase, provided the exclusion(s) improve the final cGPA. Excluded elective modules and their grades still appear on the exam results and transcript — only the cGPA calculation itself omits them.

To be promoted to the next stage of a course, a student must pass all core modules and options modules in the current stage. To obtain a clear pass in a module, a student must score 50% or more in its overall assessment.

• Students who fail a core or option module are retained in that stage, but need not repeat modules already passed; a failed elective module can be substituted with another elective.
• Students repeating a stage may, with the academic Director's approval, take new modules from the next stage alongside repeat modules, subject to scheduling and credit-unit limits.

A student is removed from the course if they: fail to complete their course within the allowed duration; fail a repeated core, option, or elective module; or obtain a semestral average below 35% at one sitting.

The duration allowed to complete a course is double its normal length: four years for a two-year course, six years for a three-year course, eight years for a four-year course, and ten years for a five-year course.

To be considered for the award of the Diploma, a student must pass all core modules of their course and, where applicable, accumulate sufficient elective-module credit units to reach the stipulated total for the course.

For students in a Special Pathway Programme or Collaboration Programme with partner Universities, an 'F' grade awarded by the partner University can be mapped to an F, D-, D, or D+ grade at SP. The mapping is based on the student's performance and/or attendance as reported by the partner University, together with a presentation, interview, and reflective practice conducted and graded by SP.
