Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) GPA Calculator

The GPA is determined by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of graded credit hours. Graded credit hours include courses graded A, B, C, D, and E. All courses taken at Illinois Institute of Technology apply to the cumulative GPA, including courses that do not count toward degree requirements. Undergraduate students with a declared major also have a Major GPA (MGPA), generally calculated from courses in that major's academic unit.

Undergraduate students may repeat up to six courses for a grade exclusion (a maximum of three at the 100/200 level and three at the 300/400 level). Both grades remain on the transcript, but only the second grade is used in the GPA, even if lower — except when the second grade is I, R, S, U, W, X, or AU. A repeat that already earned a B or C requires advisor approval.

Undergraduate students may also take up to three courses Pass/Fail. A passing result is recorded as S (or the equivalent of A/B/C/D) and does not figure into the GPA; a failing result is recorded as the standard grade E and does figure into the GPA.

A graduate student who is no longer in good standing must work with their academic adviser and academic unit head on an improvement plan, submitted as a Probation form for approval by the VP for Academic Affairs, who may permit one additional semester of registration. While on probation, a student is not allowed to receive grades below B; probationary students who receive additional C or E grades may be permanently dismissed without prior notice.

Graduate students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 to graduate. A student who has completed their program's required courses without meeting this minimum must take additional graduate-level courses, with adviser approval, to raise the GPA.
