North Carolina State University (NCSU) GPA Calculator

NC State uses a plus/minus letter grading scale from A+ through F. A grade of C- satisfies all "grade of C or better" prerequisites and other "C-wall" requirements.

Several grade symbols do not carry grade points and are not counted in the GPA:

• AU (Audit) — successful completion of a course audit.
• CR (Credit) — credit awarded by examination or advanced placement, at a C- or higher level of work.
• IN (Incomplete) — temporary grade for work not completed due to a documented serious interruption; converts to F if not resolved within the regulation's deadline.
• LA (Temporarily Late) — an emergency symbol used when grades cannot be reported on time; converts to IN.
• NR (No Recognition) — unsuccessful completion of a course audit.
• S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) — used for credit-only coursework; S requires C- or higher quality work.
• W (Withdrawal/Late Drop) — official withdrawal or approved late drop.

Grade point average is calculated by dividing the total grade points earned by the number of credit hours attempted in courses that receive a regular letter grade. The GPA is calculated to three decimal points.

A+ grades carry 4.333 grade points each, but the cumulative and semester GPA is reported with a maximum of 4.000 — an A+ cannot raise a student's official GPA above 4.000. Credit-only coursework graded S or U does not count toward the GPA.
