What Counts Toward CCU's GPA

Only grades of A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, F, WF, and Fx are used to calculate Grade Hours, Grade Points, and Grade Point Average. Grades of I (incomplete), S/U (Pass-Fail option), W (withdrawal), and AUD (audit) do not affect GPA.

Students may use Repeat Forgiveness for up to 13 undergraduate credits: the lowest grade and its hours are excluded from the cumulative GPA when a course is repeated (only C, D+, D, F, or WF grades qualify). Outside that allowance, a Standard Repeat counts both attempts' grades and hours toward the GPA.

Academic Notice, Advisory, Probation, and Suspension

Students with fewer than 30 credit hours are placed on Freshman Academic Notice when their cumulative GPA is at least 2.0 but below 2.25. Any student is placed on Academic Advisory with a semester GPA below 2.0 and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 but below 2.5. A cumulative GPA below 2.0 places a student on Academic Probation; a student on probation who fails to earn at least a 2.0 semester GPA is placed on Academic Suspension.

Former students who were away for at least 48 consecutive months with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 may apply for Academic Forgiveness after completing 24 graded credit hours at a 2.0 GPA or better upon readmission; prior grades of D or better keep their credit but are dropped from the GPA calculation, and the student becomes ineligible for graduation honors.

Graduation and Term Honors

Graduation Latin honors are based on cumulative GPA: Summa Cum Laude (3.95 and above), Magna Cum Laude (3.75 to 3.949), and Cum Laude (3.5 to 3.749).

Each fall and spring semester, students with a GPA of 4.0 on at least 12 graded hours are named to the President's Honor List; students with a 3.5 GPA or higher (3.25 for freshmen) on at least 12 graded hours are named to the Dean's Honor List. Pass-Fail, audited, correspondence, and exam-credit hours do not count toward the 12-hour minimum.

The President's Award for Academic Achievement recognizes students who earn a perfect 4.0 GPA across every institution they have ever attended, with at least 45 hours completed in residence at Coastal.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at CCU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at CCU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Coastal Carolina University (CCU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
