Grading System

USC Aiken uses a plus-only letter grading system: A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, F. No minus grades (A-, B-, C-, D-) are used, and no A+ is offered.

"FN" (Failure-Non-Attendance) is assigned to students who never attended or stopped attending without officially withdrawing; it carries the same 0.0 quality-point value as F and is computed into the GPA. "WF" (withdrawal after the drop deadline) is treated as an F and is likewise computed as 0.0 in the GPA.

GPA Calculation & Grade Forgiveness

GPA is calculated by dividing total quality points earned by total semester hours attempted for credit. Grades of "S", "U", "T", "AUD", "NR", or "W" are not included in the GPA calculation.

Under the Grade Forgiveness policy, a currently enrolled, fully-admitted, degree-seeking undergraduate earning a "D+", "D", "F", "FN", or "WF" may repeat up to two courses for grade forgiveness; both attempts remain on the record, but only the second grade is used in computing the University of South Carolina system cumulative GPA.

Academic Standing, Probation & Suspension

A cumulative institutional GPA (IGPA) of 2.00 or higher is required for good academic standing. Probation and suspension eligibility begins once a student has attempted 12 or more IGPA credit hours; the thresholds tighten as attempted hours increase:
