CCNY follows the CUNY-wide Uniform Grade Glossary. Plus and minus grades are valued 0.3 above or below the base letter grade (for example, a B+ is 0.3 higher than a B) — except A+, which is valued the same as A rather than exceeding it. Only grades that carry a numerical quality point value are included in the GPA; grades marked with a dash in the glossary, such as W, P, CR, and INC, carry no numerical value and do not affect the GPA.

Under CUNY's F-Repeat Policy, if a student earns a failing grade (F or an administrative failing grade) and later retakes the same course at the same CUNY college with a grade of C or better, the original failing grade is excluded from the cumulative GPA, though it remains on the transcript. This exclusion is capped at 16 credits over a student's entire CUNY enrollment.

Students may request a Pass/No Pass grading option for a course before the last day to withdraw. A passing performance (A+ through D-) results in a grade of "P," which carries credit but does not affect GPA; a failing performance results in "NC/NP," which also does not affect GPA.

An Incomplete ("INC") grade must be resolved by the end of the following semester (excluding Summer Session/Term), after which it lapses to "FIN," a failing grade calculated into the GPA at 0.00.

The grade of "CR" (Credit Earned) is used to award transfer credit and does not carry a numerical quality point value, so it does not affect GPA.

Under CUNY's ePermit program, grades earned in coursework taken at another CUNY college appear on the student's home-college transcript and are included in the calculation of the student's semester and cumulative GPA at the home college.
