Quality points are computed by multiplying semester hour credits by the grade's point value: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0. A grade of F or U earns zero quality points. Your GPA is the total quality points earned divided by the total semester hours included for quality points.

If a course is repeated, the higher grade counts toward your official GPA and graduation eligibility (if both attempts earn the same grade, the most recent one counts). All grades earned still count toward satisfactory academic progress and graduation honors. A maximum of 16 credit hours may be repeated during your academic career, and official withdrawals don't count toward that limit. Undergraduates who already earned a C or higher in a course may not repeat it.

Only coursework taken at NC A&T counts toward your GPA — transferred coursework is not included.

To remain in good academic standing, undergraduates must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. Falling below 2.00 at the end of a semester triggers academic probation, and students on probation must earn at least a 2.00 GPA each subsequent semester (with a reduced course load and an academic plan of action) until good standing is restored.

An academic warning is issued if a student fails to earn a minimum of 67% of cumulative attempted and transferred hours in a semester. Students on probation who fail to meet their major's minimum-hours requirement or fail to earn a 2.00 semester GPA are placed on academic suspension for one semester; a further shortfall after suspension leads to academic dismissal for a minimum of one academic year. Suspension and dismissal decisions may be appealed.

To earn a Bachelor's degree, a candidate must complete a specific curriculum, earn a minimum of 120 semester hours (excluding deficiency/remedial work), complete the university's general education requirements, and earn a final cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher — as well as a 2.0 or higher GPA in the major field of study.

At least 30 of the last 45 credit hours toward the degree must be earned at NC A&T; transfer students must complete a minimum of 25% of required degree coursework at the university. All academic conditions must be cleared by the end of the semester preceding graduation.

Full-time undergraduates earning a semester GPA of 3.25 or higher (12+ semester hours, no D or F grades) qualify for the Dean's List; a semester GPA of 3.75 or higher (under the same conditions) qualifies for the Chancellor's List. Both are noted on the student's permanent academic record.

At graduation, an adjusted GPA (all attempted hours counted except withdrawals) of 3.25–3.49 earns Cum Laude, 3.50–3.74 earns Magna Cum Laude, and 3.75–4.00 earns Summa Cum Laude. Undergraduates must earn at least 48 semester hours of resident credit at NC A&T to qualify for a graduation honor designation.

Credit earned by departmental examination is recorded with a grade of "CE" and counts toward the hours needed for a degree, but is excluded from the GPA calculation. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) credit is treated the same way as transfer credit, and CLEP credit is not granted for a course the student has already received transfer credit for or otherwise earned credit for at NC A&T.
