GPA Calculation and Course Repeats
The most recent grade earned in a repeated course is used in the GPA, even if the earlier grade was higher. If a passed course is repeated and failed (or given an NC), the previously earned grade points and credits are lost.
Undergraduate students may repeat a single course a maximum of two times (three total attempts) and are limited to six repeats total during their academic career, not counting withdrawals. A grade of W does not count as an earned grade.
Grades of P, NC, AU, and X are excluded from the GPA calculation. An unresolved X converts to F if not resolved by the end of the student's next semester of enrollment, at which point the resulting F is included in the GPA.

Academic Standing
Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher are in satisfactory academic standing. Students below that threshold are subject to warning, probation, suspension, or dismissal, based on cumulative GPA and total attempted credits (transfer, credit-by-exam, and repeat credits count; audited-course credits do not).

A student cannot be suspended or dismissed at the end of a Fall or Spring semester in which they earned a 2.000 or higher semester GPA, even if the cumulative GPA remains below 2.000. A third suspension results in dismissal for at least three years.

Graduation Requirements
All undergraduate degree programs require a minimum of 120 credits and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000, with a minimum 2.000 GPA in the major(s) and minor(s) where applicable; programs leading to certification, licensure, or specialized accreditation may require a higher GPA. Students seeking teacher certification must have a 3.000 cumulative GPA in all university coursework.
Students must complete at least 30 of their final 60 credits in residence at SRU, and at least 50% of their major at a PASSHE university.

Transfer Credit
Grades earned in courses taken at other colleges for transfer are not computed in Slippery Rock University's GPA, unless the courses were taken with the university's approval as a "Visiting Student" or "Distance Education Student" at another Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) university.
