How the GPA Is Calculated

The grade point average is computed by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total unit value of letter-graded courses completed. Grades of I, IP, P, NP, S, U, and W are disregarded in grade point calculations.

The grade of A+, when awarded, represents extraordinary achievement but does not receive grade point credit beyond that received for the grade of A. Only the grades A, B, and C may be modified by plus (+) or minus (−) suffixes, each worth three-tenths of a grade point more or less per unit.

Academic Notice and Disqualification

An undergraduate student is placed on academic notice if their term or cumulative GPA falls below 2.0. An undergraduate is subject to disqualification from further registration if their term GPA falls below 1.5, or after two successive terms on academic notice without reaching a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

A graduate student is subject to disqualification if their cumulative GPA in upper-division and graduate coursework falls below 3.0, or if more than eight units of F and/or U grades have been accumulated.
