Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) GPA Calculator

PFW grades on a 4.0 scale: A+ and A (4.0), A- (3.7), B+ (3.3), B (3.0), B- (2.7), C+ (2.3), C (2.0), C- (1.7), D+ (1.3), D (1.0), and D- (0.7).

A+ carries the same grade-point value as A — it does not raise your GPA above 4.0. F and IF (Unremoved Incomplete, Failing) both carry 0.0 grade points.

Several marks appear on a PFW transcript but carry no grade-point value and are not computed in your GPA: I, IN, IU, NC, NP, NS, P, PI, S, SI, and W.

Your grade point average is the sum of the grade points for all included courses divided by the total number of credit hours for those courses, rounded to two decimal places.

If you retake a course that isn't designated repeatable for credit, only your most recent grade counts toward your GPA — even though every attempt stays on your academic record.

A fall or spring semester or cumulative GPA below 2.0 places you on Academic Notice. You're removed once both your semester and cumulative GPA reach 2.0 or higher in a later fall or spring semester.

Staying below 2.0 in just one of the two GPAs while already on notice keeps you in Continued Notice; falling below 2.0 in both places you on the Academic Separation list. Academic standing isn't assessed in summer sessions.

After separation, you can't re-enroll at PFW (or another Purdue campus) until at least one fall or spring semester has passed, and you must apply for readmission — a second separation raises that wait to at least one year.

To earn an associate or bachelor's degree at PFW, you need a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better, on top of completing at least 32 resident credits (including at least 15 credits in your major).

Each fall and spring semester (not summer), the Dean's List requires at least 12 credit hours in your graduation GPA, at least 6 in your semester GPA, a 3.5 graduation GPA, and a 3.0 semester GPA. The Semester Honors List requires at least 6 credit hours in your semester GPA, a 3.5 semester GPA, and a 2.0 graduation GPA.

At graduation, a cumulative GPA of 3.80-3.94 earns distinction, and 3.95-4.00 earns highest distinction, provided you meet the minimum resident-credit requirement (60 for a bachelor's degree, 35 for an associate degree).

AP and IB scores can earn credit or placement at departmental discretion — IB awards typically require a Higher Level score of 5 or above (or an AS/A-level score of C or above).

CLEP subject scores of 50 or higher and DSST scores of 400 or higher can earn department-approved credit; Excelsior College exam scores of C or higher work the same way for military credit.

For military students, JST, CLEP, DANTES, and Excelsior credit combined may not exceed 70% of degree requirements for online programs, or 75% for in-person programs.
