Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) GPA Calculator

SIT adopts a 5-point Grade Point Average (GPA) letter-grading system for modules and competency units, on a 0.00–5.00 scale. For modules taken from AY2021/22 onwards (current):

• A+ and A — 5.00 (no bonus for A+ over a plain A; both sit at the scale ceiling)
• A- — 4.50
• B+ — 4.00
• B — 3.50
• B- — 3.00
• C+ — 2.50
• C — 2.00
• D+ — 1.50 (modules only)
• D — 1.00 (modules only; the standard passing grade)
• F — 0.00 (modules only)

Competency units (used in SIT's Competency-based Stackable Micro-credential pathway) use the same A+ through C grades, but replace D+/D/F with a single IC (Incomplete attainment of competencies) outcome instead.

SIT also awards non-letter notations that carry no grade point and are not counted in your GPA: PASS, D^ (Basic attainment), FAIL, IC^, IP (In Progress), EX (Exempted), TC (Credit Transfer), ABS (Absent with valid reason), W (Withdrawn), R(grade) (Repeated attempt), # (Credit Transfer within SIT) and * (Combined Results Pass, used only for the SIT-Massey University Bachelor of Food Technology programmes).

The passing grade for all letter-graded modules is D (1.00), unless otherwise specified — exceptions may apply to selected modules under SIT-Overseas University joint programmes.

SIT computes three GPA figures depending on the programme: Trimester GPA (TGPA), Cumulative GPA (CGPA) and Year GPA (YGPA). Each is the credit-weighted average grade point of your letter-graded components — the sum of (grade point × credits) for each component, divided by the total credits — over a trimester, your whole candidature, or an academic year respectively.

Only letter-graded components count. Components marked Pass, D^, Fail, IC^, IP, EX, ABS, TC or W are excluded from the TGPA/CGPA/YGPA calculation entirely.

If you repeat an assessment or module, the repeat grade's point value is capped: for undergraduate learners, a repeated assessment following an F is capped at 1.00, and a repeated module or re-attempted competency unit is capped at 2.00. For postgraduate learners, the cap depends on programme: 2.50 for Master's by Coursework/Postgraduate or Graduate Diploma/Certificate, 3.00 for Postgraduate by Research (Master's), and 3.50 for Postgraduate by Research (Doctoral). Your transcript shows every attempt, with a repeat attempt marked in parentheses with an 'R' prefix (e.g. R(B)) — only your best attempt counts toward CGPA/YGPA.

SIT recognises prior learning as either a credit exemption (for learning completed before you enrolled) or a credit transfer (for pre-approved external courses, such as industry certifications or modules from other institutions, taken during your studies). Whether the recognised credit also carries its grade into your CGPA depends on its source:

• SIT courses not yet used toward an awarded SIT-conferred qualification — grade transfers and counts toward CGPA; no cap on credits recognised, unless otherwise specified.
• SIT courses already used toward another awarded SIT-conferred qualification, non-SIT formal courses, or non-formal/informal learning (e.g. substantial work experience or industry certifications) — grade does not transfer; credits recognised are capped at 50% of your current programme's requirements.

Prior learning must generally have been attained within five years of enrolling in your current programme to be considered; older learning may still be considered case-by-case. Exemption is never granted for compulsory capstone/thesis-equivalent project modules or university-level modules (absent exceptional approval). You may appeal a credit-recognition decision once; once recognised credits are posted to your academic record, the decision is final and cannot be reversed.

SIT confers degrees, graduate diplomas and certificates under the Singapore Institute of Technology Act 2014. To graduate, you must have completed all the requirements of your enrolled programme, and your results and completion status must be approved by the SIT Board of Examiners (BOE) or, for overseas-university joint programmes, the SIT-Overseas University Joint BOE.

Programme-specific graduation requirements (e.g. minimum credits, capstone/thesis completion) are published separately under each programme's own section of the Academic Bulletin, rather than as a single institution-wide GPA threshold. Conferment can be withheld pending unresolved disciplinary proceedings, and degrees, graduate diplomas or certificates may be rescinded on the recommendation of the SIT Board of Discipline.
