Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYUI) GPA Calculator

Instructors assign grades based on an evaluation of completed coursework, including classroom or laboratory participation, mastery of the subject matter, and application of BYU-Idaho's Learning Model principles. Progress grades (A, B, C, D, P) reflect completed and earned work; non-progress grades (F, W, UW, I, NR, T, IP) are not counted toward earned credit. BYU-Idaho uses plus/minus distinctions from A- through D-, but does not award an A+.

GPA is calculated by dividing total grade points earned by total quality credits attempted. Pass (P) courses count toward graduation but are not factored into GPA. Incomplete (I) and Withdrawal (W) grades do not receive grade points and do not affect GPA. Not Reported (NR) and Temporary (T) grades likewise do not factor into GPA. Unofficial Withdrawal (UW) is calculated into the GPA as a failing grade value of 0.0.

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA (cGPA) of 2.0 or higher to remain in Good Academic Standing. Students who fall below a 2.0 cGPA are placed on Academic Notice, Academic Intervention, or Academic Pause, with tailored interventions such as the GS 102R academic-recovery course required for students below Good Academic Standing. A student on Academic Pause may not register for BYU-Idaho courses, work in student employment, or live in approved housing for two or more semesters. Students return to Good Academic Standing by raising their cGPA above 2.0. Effective December 23, 2026, Academic Pause is fully implemented and enforced each semester, beginning with Winter 2027.

Students must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to be eligible to earn a BYU-Idaho degree.
