How SEMO Calculates GPA
Grade points are earned on the following basis: A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 2 points, D = 1 point, F = 0 points per semester hour. GPA is computed by dividing total grade points by the number of semester hours of academic work attempted.
Grades of CR (credit), P (pass), and AU (audit), along with non-degree (ND-prefix) courses, are not computed in the GPA. A grade of P does not affect the GPA, but a grade of F is computed into the GPA.
When a course is repeated, the first grade remains on the permanent record, but only the last grade earned is used in computing the GPA.

Academic Probation and Suspension
Any time a student's cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, the student is placed on academic probation with enrollment limited to 12 hours per semester, and is expected to earn a semester GPA of 2.0 each subsequent semester until the cumulative GPA reaches 2.0.
A student on probation who earns a semester GPA below 2.0 is subject to academic suspension, reviewed under rules based on cumulative GPA and number of terms attended (for example, a cumulative GPA below 1.75 results in suspension regardless of terms attended). A suspended student may appeal in writing to the University Academic Appeals Committee.

A minimum 2.0 GPA is also required in major coursework generally, with several majors requiring 2.25-3.0.
