Repeat Course Limitations

A student may attempt a course up to three times for credit. Beyond that, the student must meet with an advisor to discuss the educational plan and obtain permission from the department chair to repeat the course; certain programs and academic disciplines may have additional time and frequency limitations.

When a course is repeated, the highest grade earned is used to calculate the cumulative GPA, although all attempts remain on the transcript. The college's course repeat rules differ from the repeat rules used for Title IV financial aid eligibility.

Satisfactory Academic Progress, Probation & Suspension

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 must be maintained. A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 at the end of a term is placed on academic probation (unless suspension criteria are met); probation students must meet with their advisor, are assigned a success coach, and are capped at 13 credit hours per fall/spring term (7 for summer) until the cumulative GPA returns to 2.00 or above.

Academic suspension applies after a student has attempted at least 13 credits and completed two semesters, based on a GPA-by-credit-hours threshold chart, or separately when a student has withdrawn (grade of W) from 50% or more of credits after attempting 30 credit hours. A suspended student sits out the following fall or spring term and must apply for reinstatement; students requesting 7 credits who sat out the required semester are automatically reinstated, while other requests go to a faculty committee. Reinstated students must earn a 2.0 term GPA to continue.

Academic Renewal lets a returning student exclude certain prior coursework from their GPA calculation, without deleting it from the record: Complete Academic Renewal (after 5+ consecutive years away from HACC, followed by 12 new credits at a 'C' or higher) or Curriculum-Based Academic Renewal (on a change of major). Academic Renewal may be granted only once, and excluded courses cannot later be used to fulfill program requirements.

Students may appeal academic decisions, including final grades, under SGP 608; the first step is discussion with the person who made the decision, followed by a formal appeal to the relevant dean within ten business days.

Dean's List & Graduation Honors

Each term, HACC publishes a Dean's List naming students who achieve at least a 3.25 GPA while completing a minimum of six credits in that fall, spring, or summer term; Dean's List students receive a Certificate of Commendation.

Students graduating with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better earn academic honors, recorded on the transcript: summa cum laude (3.75+, Highest Honors), magna cum laude (3.50-3.74, High Honors), and cum laude (3.25-3.49, Honors).

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at HACC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at HACC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
