Beyond the standard letter grades, transcripts also record several non-graded marks: S (Satisfactory — equivalent to a C or better, used only for credit-by-exam and specific courses approved for S/U grading), U (Unsatisfactory), AU (Audit — non-credit enrollment with no grade or credit awarded), I (Incomplete — assigned when a student has completed at least 75% of coursework with a passing grade but cannot finish due to extenuating circumstances; must be resolved within one year or it automatically becomes an F), W (Withdrawal), NC (No Credit, non-graded), and TR (Transfer credit from an approved institution).

GPA is total grade points earned divided by total credit hours attempted. Credit hours marked S, U, I, AU, TR, or W are excluded from the calculation, as is any transferred coursework. When a course is repeated, only the grade and credit from the last attempt count toward GPA. Term GPA reflects a single semester; Cumulative GPA reflects the full academic record and is used for graduation qualification, probation/suspension decisions, and financial-aid and scholarship eligibility.

Students are classified as in good standing, on academic probation, or academically suspended; probation and suspension are noted on the transcript. A student who has completed at least 12 credit hours with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 is placed on academic probation and must meet with an academic advisor to develop a success plan; probation is lifted once cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher. A student on probation who fails to earn a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher is academically suspended for one regular semester and may not register for credit courses during that period. No student is suspended before completing at least 24 credit hours at the District, and suspension always follows a prior semester of probation; a suspended student may appeal to the Student Appeals Committee to re-enroll the following semester. Students on probation may not hold student office or represent the College publicly, and first-semester varsity athletes must maintain at least a 1.75 cumulative GPA in their first 12 credit hours (2.0 thereafter) to keep eligibility.

Full-time students completing 12 or more credit hours with grades of A (or S, capped at one credit) and a semester GPA of 4.0 are named to the President's List; those with grades of A, B, C, or S (S capped at one credit) and a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher are named to the Vice President's List. Part-time students who have completed 12 or more cumulative credits with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, while carrying at least 6 credit hours of A/B/C/S grades in the current semester, qualify for the Part-Time Honor Roll. At graduation, Associate Degree recipients completing a minimum of 32 credit hours at NWCCD (or Certificate recipients completing at least half their required coursework at NWCCD) qualify for graduation honors: a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher earns High Honors, and 3.50 or higher earns Honors. Credit for advanced placement, CLEP, or other non-traditional credit does not count toward this residency requirement.

Transfer credit is generally accepted only from regionally accredited U.S. institutions for coursework completed with a grade of C or better; grades of D or F do not transfer. Transferred GPA does not carry into the NWCCD cumulative GPA except where a Consortium Agreement applies. Remedial coursework (numbered below 1000) does not transfer. Coursework transferred to the District that was repeated is evaluated under the District's own repeat-course rules, with only the last attempt counted. Military training may be evaluated for transfer credit using American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines, and Advanced Placement, CLEP, and International Baccalaureate credit is awarded according to minimum scores the District's faculty have established for each program.
