Cumberland University GPA Calculator

Cumberland University grades on a percentage scale that converts to a 10-step letter/GPA scale, from A (4.0) down to F (0.0). This is the University standard, though some Schools and faculty may deviate from it, with the specific policy detailed in the course syllabus. As the catalog itself notes, the numerical average behind a given letter grade may vary with the instructor.

Notably, Cumberland's scale has no C- or D- grade — the table steps directly from C down to D+ with no intermediate C- band.

Several notations carry no grade-point value and do not affect your GPA: Audit (AU), Withdrawal (W), Withdrawal Passing (WP), and Pass (P). By contrast, Failure to Attend (FA), Failure – Cheating (FC), Withdrawal Failing (WF), and Administrative Withdrawal (AW) all count the same as a standard F. An Incomplete (IN) counts as hours attempted and is calculated as an F in your GPA until it is replaced with a permanent grade — you have until the end of the next semester to complete the work, after which it converts to an F automatically.

Under the Repeated Course Policy, you may only repeat a course in which you earned a grade of B or lower (courses graded B+ or higher cannot be repeated unless separately designated "repeatable for credit"). If you repeat a course two or more times, every grade earned after the first attempt counts toward your retention/graduation GPA, but only your most recent grade counts toward degree-progress requirements. All attempts remain on your transcript.

To remain in good academic standing, your cumulative Cumberland GPA must meet a minimum that rises with your credit hours attempted:

Falling below your threshold places you on academic probation, giving you one semester (unless admitted on probation) to reach good standing before academic suspension for at least the following semester. Earning a 0.0 GPA in any single semester triggers automatic academic probation, regardless of your cumulative GPA or prior semesters. Students administratively withdrawn (grade of AW) are automatically placed on academic suspension. A first-time suspension requires sitting out at least one full semester (excluding summer) before applying for re-admission on probation.

An associate's degree requires a minimum of 60 semester hours (at least 24 earned at Cumberland) and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 for all coursework taken at Cumberland, with a grade of C or better in every core course required by the major.

A bachelor's degree requires a minimum of 120 semester hours (at least 25% earned at Cumberland, at least half of that upper-division), and the same 2.00 minimum cumulative GPA and C-or-better major-core requirement apply.

The Dean's List is compiled each semester for full-time undergraduates with a semester GPA of 3.50 or above on all classes attempted; a grade of F, FA, or I in any course disqualifies a student regardless of GPA.

Graduation honors are based on cumulative Cumberland GPA: Cum Laude (3.50–3.74), Magna Cum Laude (3.75–3.89), and Summa Cum Laude (3.90–4.00). Associate candidates need at least 30 credit hours at Cumberland to qualify; bachelor's candidates need at least 60, including 15 upper-division hours. Honors categories do not apply to graduate students.
