College of the Redwoods GPA Calculator

An instructor may assign a grade of Incomplete ("I") under California Code of Regulations, Title 5, §55023, when unforeseeable, emergency, and justifiable circumstances near the end of the term prevent a student from finishing a limited amount of remaining coursework. The student and instructor sign an Incomplete Contract specifying the make-up work and the grade that applies if it is not completed; the work must be finished no later than one semester after the term the "I" was assigned (not counting summer session), or the grade reverts to "F." Students may not re-enroll in a course in which they received an "I."

A recorded grade is final absent error, fraud, bad faith, or incompetence. A student who believes a grade was assigned on one of those grounds may appeal first to the instructor, then to the Division Dean or Director, and finally to the Course Grade Challenge Committee, whose decision is final.

Semester GPA is computed each term by multiplying the grade points earned in each course by that course's units, summing the results, and dividing by the total units attempted that term. Cumulative GPA combines this calculation across all terms of college-level enrollment.

Students may petition for Academic Renewal to disregard prior substandard coursework (grades of D, F, or NP only) from their GPA. At least two years must have elapsed since the coursework was completed, and any course taken elsewhere must be documented with an official transcript. Academic renewal is irreversible; the permanent record remains legible showing all original work.

Students are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and to successfully complete at least 50% of attempted units. A student who has earned at least 12 units is placed on Academic Notice if their cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, or on Progress Notice if they have completed less than 50% of attempted units; either notice is extended an additional term if the underlying standard still is not met.

Academic Pause occurs when a student's cumulative and term GPA both remain below 2.0 for three consecutive semesters; Progress Pause occurs after three consecutive semesters on Progress Notice; a mixed combination of academic and progress notice for three consecutive terms has the same effect. A student on pause is restricted from enrolling the following term but may appeal for reinstatement with documentation of extenuating circumstances, and may apply for readmission after an absence of one or more semesters with a counselor's or advisor's recommendation.

Graduating honors require a minimum of 30.0 graded semester units completed at College of the Redwoods, including at least two semesters of 9+ units. Valedictorian and Salutatorian are the two graduating students with the highest GPAs, subject to the same 30-unit/two-semester minimum.
