Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) GPA Calculator

Your grade point average (GPA) is found by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, adding these up across your courses, and dividing by the total credit hours completed. Term GPA uses that term's courses only; cumulative GPA uses everything you've attempted.

Repeating a course: effective Fall 2021, if you repeat a course the highest grade you earned is the one used in your GPA, though every attempt still appears on your transcript (withdrawals and audits count as attempts too). You can repeat a course once for a better grade; a third attempt needs permission from an academic advisor or counselor.

Academic Renewal (replacing the older Academic Forgiveness policy) lets you exclude D and F grades from your cumulative GPA after a two-year absence from credit study, or after changing your program of study, provided you then earn at least 12 more credits with a 2.00 GPA or higher. Excluded grades stay on your transcript marked with a # but no longer count toward your GPA. Courses already used to satisfy an awarded credential can't be excluded, and only credit earned at CCAC itself ever counts toward your CCAC GPA — transfer credit does not change it.

After each term's final grades post, your record is checked for academic standing. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is Good Standing, which you must maintain to graduate.

If your term GPA falls below 2.0, you're placed on Academic Notice. If your cumulative GPA is also below 2.0 while on Academic Notice, you move to Academic Assistance, which limits you to 9-10 credits per term and requires meeting with an academic advisor. From either status, returning to Good Standing requires both your term and cumulative GPA to reach 2.0.

If your record doesn't improve while on Academic Assistance, you can be placed on Academic Restriction (reviewed once a year, in May), based on credits attempted: cumulative GPA below 1.50 at 24 credits, below 1.75 at 25-48 credits, below 1.90 at 49-59 credits, or below 2.00 at 60 or more credits. Restricted students sit out two terms unless they successfully appeal to their campus's Academic Appeals Committee.

You must be in Good Standing — a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher — to graduate. Developmental (remedial) courses aren't calculated into your graduation GPA, but you must earn a C or better in them to move on to the next course in that subject.

CCAC recognizes degree-seeking students on its Dean's List at the end of each fall, spring, and summer term. Full-time students qualify with a term GPA of 3.50 or higher and no F grades. Part-time students become eligible once they've accumulated 12 credits, also needing a term GPA of 3.50 or higher with no F grades.
