California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) GPA Calculator

CSU East Bay grades on a 4.0 scale with a full plus/minus range: A (4.0), A- (3.7), B+ (3.3), B (3.0), B- (2.7), C+ (2.3), C (2.0), C- (1.7), D+ (1.3), D (1.0), and F (0.0). There is no A+ and no D- anywhere in the system.

Two administrative grades also count toward your GPA at 0.0 grade points, the same as an F: IC (Incomplete Charged), assigned when an authorized Incomplete isn't completed within the allowed time, and WU (Withdrawal Unauthorized), assigned when a student fails to complete a course without officially withdrawing.

Several other marks appear on a transcript but carry no grade points and are not computed in your GPA, including CR (Credit), NC (No Credit), RP (Report in Progress), I (Incomplete, Authorized), RD (Report Delayed), W (Withdrawal), and AU (Audit).

Your GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points you've earned by the total quality hours attempted, excluding any units graded CR/NC. Undergraduates may take up to 40 semester units under credit/no-credit grading patterns.

You may repeat a course for grade forgiveness up to two times if you earned lower than a C (including C-, D+, D, F, WU, IC, or NC) — the earlier attempt is ignored in GPA calculations but stays on your record. You're limited to 16 semester units of grade forgiveness plus an additional 12 semester units of grade averaging (where both attempts count toward your GPA), for a combined cap of 28 units.

Under extenuating circumstances, you can also petition to exclude up to two semesters (or three quarters) of coursework from your degree requirements and GPA entirely, subject to conditions including five years having elapsed and minimum GPA/unit combinations earned since.

You're placed on academic alert if your cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 after a Fall or Spring semester. Freshmen (fewer than 30 semester units completed) get a second consecutive semester of "continued alert" if their cumulative GPA is between 1.50 and 1.99.

You can be academically disqualified if, while on alert: as a freshman, your term GPA falls below 1.50; or as a sophomore, junior, or senior, your term GPA falls below 2.0. Separately, you can face administrative disqualification if your cumulative GPA drops below 1.0 at the end of any term, regardless of alert status.

To be reinstated after academic disqualification, you must raise both your CSU East Bay GPA and cumulative GPA to 2.00 or better — typically by earning good grades elsewhere first. A second academic disqualification is not eligible for reinstatement.

To earn a baccalaureate degree, you need at least a 2.00 (C) average in three separate calculations: all college/university coursework, all CSU East Bay coursework, and all coursework in your major (CR, NC, W, and AU grades are excluded from these averages).

Undergraduates who complete at least 12 units (excluding CR/NC) in a semester with a 3.50 or higher term GPA are named to the Dean's List for that semester.

At graduation, undergraduates with at least 40 semester-units completed in residence at CSU East Bay may earn Latin Honors based on cumulative GPA (both overall and at CSUEB): summa cum laude (3.85-4.00), magna cum laude (3.75-3.84), or cum laude (3.65-3.74). Post-baccalaureate and graduate students are not eligible for Latin Honors.
