Dallas College GPA Calculator

Dallas College's Standard Grading System grades most courses on a 4.0 scale: A (4 points), B (3 points), C (2 points), D (1 point), and F (0 points). Dallas College does not use plus/minus grading at the standard level — there is no A+, A-, B+, or similar modified letter grade.

A handful of professional and licensure-driven programs (health sciences, nursing, and one competency-based bachelor's track) use a different grading scale — see the FAQ below.

Grade points for a course are the grade's point value multiplied by its credit hours; your GPA is total grade points divided by total credit hours attempted.

Dallas College tracks two GPAs: GPA(1) covers every A-F grade earned at Dallas College and determines probation/suspension status and athletic eligibility. GPA(2) covers college-level A-F grades only (courses numbered below 1000 and a short list of specific courses are excluded) and is used for honor rolls and is the GPA four-year institutions typically consider on transfer.

For a repeated course, only the latest grade counts toward cumulative GPA, even if it's lower than an earlier attempt; the transcript still lists every attempt.

Good Standing requires a cumulative GPA(1) of 2.0 or higher. Falling below that starts a probation ladder: Probation One → (if the semester GPA stays below 2.0) Suspension (ineligible to enroll the next semester) → Probation Two → Academic Dismissal (ineligible to enroll for 12 months) → Probation Three → Indefinite Academic Dismissal.

At every probation tier, a student must earn at least a 2.0 semester GPA (or withdraw from all attempted coursework) to avoid moving further down the ladder, and stays on that tier until their cumulative GPA(1) reaches 2.0 again.

Eligibility for graduation is determined by a Graduation GPA, calculated from all college-level coursework including credits transferable to Dallas College.

Full-time students (12+ college-level hours) with a 3.5-3.79 GPA(2) are named to the Provost's Honor Roll; a 3.8-4.0 GPA(2) earns the Chancellor's Honor Roll. Part-time students (6-11 hours) with a GPA(2) of 3.5 or higher are named to the Academic Recognition List.

GPA(2) — not GPA(1) — is the GPA figure that four-year institutions typically consider when a student transfers from Dallas College.

Students transferring in from another college while on academic probation, suspension, or dismissal there have their academic history reviewed as part of admission, and aren't guaranteed registration unless they meet Dallas College's own standing requirements.
