Grade symbols beyond the point scale

Beyond the graded A-F scale, Kilgore College uses several non-GPA symbols. I (Incomplete) is computed as an F in the grade point average until the instructor submits a grade change. IP (Incomplete Passing) and W (Withdrawn from course) are not included in GPA calculations. CR marks credit earned by examination or advanced placement. Certain health science programs use a grading scale that differs from the college-wide scale described here; those exceptions are explained in the relevant program's section of the catalog.

How KC calculates GPA

Kilgore College uses a four-point grading system. The semester GPA is the total grade points earned divided by the semester hours attempted, including developmental hours. The cumulative GPA divides total grade points earned by total semester hours attempted across all terms, excluding developmental hours. When a course is repeated, the college counts only the highest grade earned toward the GPA, although other colleges receiving transfer credit may not follow the same practice.

Academic warning and suspension

A student is placed on academic warning after completing at least one term and six cumulative semester hours with a cumulative GPA below 2.0, or after returning from suspension. A student on warning may continue if the cumulative GPA reaches at least 1.75 or the term GPA reaches at least 2.0, and is removed from warning once the cumulative GPA reaches 2.0. Academic suspension follows when a student on warning fails to earn both a 1.75 cumulative GPA and a 2.0 term GPA; suspension is typically for one 8-week term. A suspended student may return on continued academic warning afterward, or attend summer school and remain on warning by earning six or more semester hours with at least a 1.75 cumulative and 2.5 summer-term GPA. Only grades earned at KC are used to determine warning or suspension status.

Dean's List, President's List, and graduation honors

Each long semester, students completing 12 or more semester hours of non-developmental coursework qualify for the Dean's List with a semester GPA of at least 3.5, or the President's List with a semester GPA of 4.0. Phi Theta Kappa membership requires a cumulative GPA of 3.5 (with at least 12 hours toward an associate or bachelor's degree, or 6 hours toward a one-year certificate), and a 3.25 cumulative GPA to remain in good standing. Graduates with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above graduate with honors, computed using only Kilgore College coursework (transfer grades excluded) and requiring at least 50 percent of graduation hours earned at KC:

Cumulative GPAHonor
3.50 - 3.74Graduation with honors
3.75 - 3.99Graduation with high honors
4.00Graduation with highest honors
4.00 and all hours awarded by KCPresidential Honors

Transfer credit policy

Kilgore College accepts transfer credit from regionally-accredited institutions for courses graded D or better, evaluated for accreditation, comparability, and applicability to a KC degree program; transfer grades themselves are not included in the KC grade point average. Credit from nationally- or professionally-accredited institutions requires an academic dean's approval, and a course completed twice elsewhere is accepted only for the most recent attempt earning D or better. Students planning to transfer from KC should confirm equivalencies directly with the receiving institution, since senior institutions vary in how they treat transfer grades -- commonly requiring at least a C, though some accept a D within an overall C average.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at KC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at KC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Kilgore College (KC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
