How the GPA Is Calculated
The cumulative grade point average (GPA) is computed by dividing total GPA hours/units attempted into total quality points received. Only the letter grades A, B, C, D, and F carry quality points and count toward the GPA. Grades of P (Pass), NP (No Pass), I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), W (Withdrawal), EW (Excused Withdrawal), MW (Military Withdrawal), and RD (Report Delayed) carry no grade points and are excluded from the GPA calculation.

Pass/No Pass Toward Degree Units
Units earned on a Pass/No Pass basis count toward the Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) 60-unit requirement, though they are excluded from the GPA. A maximum of twelve units of Pass/No Pass coursework (excluding COUN 140 C and work experience) is allowed at Cypress College, with up to six units permitted per semester.
