Houston Community College System (HCCS) GPA Calculator

Grade points earned for each course are the course's grade-point value multiplied by its semester hours. Your GPA is the total grade points divided by the total semester hours attempted.

The notations IP, W, AUD, COM, Pass, Fail, and I do not affect your GPA.

If you repeat a course you already received a letter grade (A–F) in, only your highest grade counts toward your GPA — every attempt still stays on your transcript.

An Incomplete (I) must be resolved within six months of the term's end or it automatically becomes an F.

You're in Good Standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.

A cumulative GPA below 2.0 places you on Academic Probation. If your cumulative GPA is still below 2.0 but your term GPA reaches 2.0 or above, you move to Continued Academic Probation. If your term GPA falls below 2.0 again while on either probation status, you're placed on Academic Suspension, which can mean your classes for the next semester are dropped unless you appeal.

To graduate, you need a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above, counting all graded coursework including developmental courses, and you must complete at least 25% of your program's hours at HCC (credit-by-exam doesn't count toward that 25%).

Associate and bachelor's degree graduates qualify for Highest Honors at a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or above, High Honors at 3.60–3.79, and Honors at 3.35–3.59. You must complete at least 25% of your degree at HCC to be eligible; certificate graduates don't receive honors.

Developmental course grades count toward your overall cumulative GPA but are excluded from the degree GPA used to calculate honors eligibility.

If you can't complete the degree plan on file at HCC, you may transfer back up to 45 semester hours of equivalent coursework from an accredited institution, as long as it's completed within three years of your last HCC semester. You'll still need to meet every other graduation requirement, including completing 25% of your degree at HCC.
