California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) GPA Calculator

Fresno State grades on a 4.0 scale using a flat A/B/C/D/F system: A (4.0), B (3.0), C (2.0), D (1.0), and F (0.0). There is no plus or minus grading at all — no A+, no B+/B-, and so on.

A WU (Failure Withdrawal Unauthorized) grade and an IC (Incomplete Charged) grade are both computed into your GPA at 0.0 grade points, the same as an F.

Several other marks appear on a transcript but carry no grade points and are not computed in your GPA, including AU (Audit), CR (Credit), I (Incomplete Authorized), NC (No Credit), RD (Report Delayed), RP (Report in Progress), and W (Withdrawal).

Fresno State computes three separate GPAs: a cumulative GPA for all baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate units by degree objective, a cumulative GPA for total Fresno State units (your campus GPA), and a GPA for the current semester only.

Neither CR nor NC grades are included in the GPA calculation. If a required Incomplete (I) is not completed within the allowed time, it converts to an IC and counts as 0.0 grade points; a WU is likewise treated as equivalent to an F for GPA purposes.

Undergraduates may grade-substitute up to 16 semester units by repeating courses originally graded D, F, WU, or IC; only the new grade counts toward the GPA.

Undergraduates must maintain a 2.00 GPA (C average) in both their Fresno State and cumulative GPA to remain in good academic standing; graduate students (master's or doctoral) must maintain a 3.0 GPA (B average).

An undergraduate or post-baccalaureate student is placed on Academic Warning if their campus or cumulative GPA is 1.99 or below. From Academic Warning, a student is placed on Academic Notice (dismissal) if their GPA falls below 1.50 (freshmen, under 30 units), 1.70 (sophomores, 30-59 units), 1.85 (juniors, 60-89 units), or 1.95 (seniors/post-baccalaureate, 90+ units).

Master's students must maintain a minimum 3.0 post-baccalaureate GPA and are disqualified if their cumulative or campus GPA falls below 2.0.

A minimum 2.0 GPA (C average) is required in the major, in all Fresno State units, and in total units attempted to earn a baccalaureate degree. Master's degree students face a higher minimum GPA requirement, and a grade of D is not accepted toward any master's degree program.

Undergraduates enrolled in at least 12 letter-graded units in a regular term, earning no grade lower than a C, and earning at least a 3.5 Fresno State GPA for the term are placed on the Dean's List. Students meeting these requirements with a 4.0 GPA are placed on the President's List. Both exclude CR/NC and remedial/college-readiness coursework from the unit count.
